We know the word "surgery" can sound scary, but this is a precise, well-planned procedure done chairside in a calm, comfortable setting.
Before, During, and After the Procedure
Before your visit, we use 3D CBCT imaging to get a detailed, three-dimensional view of the root and surrounding bone, so Dr. Kapers can plan the exact spot that needs treatment. We'll also talk with you about comfort options, including sedation dentistry, if you feel anxious about the procedure.
During the apicoectomy, the area is fully numbed, and a very small opening is made in the gum tissue near the root tip. Dr. Kapers removes the infected tissue and the last few millimeters of the root, then seals the end to stop reinfection. The gum is closed with a few small stitches.
Afterward, mild swelling or soreness is normal for a couple of days. We'll send you home with clear instructions on eating, rest, and any medication, plus a follow-up visit to check healing.
